green-grassLike many homeowners, it most likely pains you to see beautiful summer days fade into the autumn chill. Keep your yard looking great come spring by adding these 5 tasks to your to-do list.

1- Aerate your lawn to prevent water accumulation

Aeration is necessary to prevent standing water from accumulating on your lawn. Focus on areas where the soil is packed down to ensure the penetration of nutrients and rainwater. If you have only a small area to cover, you can use a pitchfork, but larger yards usually require an aerator.

2- Nourish your lawn for bright green grass in the spring

Fertilizing your lawn in late fall helps promote grass growth right up until the cold weather sets in. This in turn helps ensure the greenest grass possible in the warmer months.

3- Mow your lawn one last time before winter

When you cut your grass, try to leave a height of 1”. This will make raking fallen leaves easier.

4- Cut off dead branches from trees and shrubs

From the smallest shrubs to the tallest trees, we recommend pruning any dead, cracked or damaged branches, especially if they are close to the trunk. This will help prevent damage to your home and roof during strong winds.

5- Rake fallen leaves

Raking is a necessary task that can also be fun. You can even repurpose fallen leaves by adding them to a compost heap.
