Siding

One of the experts in your region can advise you on the type of exterior finish that best meets your needs. As it both insulates and protects your home, the exterior finish of your home is a major element of defence against weather conditions. Whether you're installing exterior finish on a new house or replacing the existing siding on your home, our specialists can  help you select the right exterior finish for you.

Choosing the exterior finish that best meets your needs

As the exterior finish of your home will last many years, this decision must be carefully well thought-out. Each type of finish offers its own advantages, but also presents disadvantages. It is therefore important to assess what is most important and best suited for you.

Vinyl siding

The most popular choice, vinyl is light, easy to install and maintain, and is available in a wide range of colors and sizes. In addition, this type of finish is very affordable and offers good knock and scratch resistance. However, vinyl siding does not stand up well to heat, such as that generated by a nearby a BBQ, or to handling in severe cold conditions. Furthermore, if it is not properly installed, it can sometimes flop around in the wind, given how light it is. Depending on the color chosen, the darker shades can sometimes be faded by the sun.

Natural wood

Environmentally-friendly, sturdy, light and available in several wood types and colors, natural wood siding is an excellent choice for any type of house. Durable and relatively affordable, wood presents the major disadvantage of requiring regular, time-consuming maintenance.

Engineered wood

Imitating wood, the look is sometimes very realistic, depending on the brand chosen. A durable, environmentally-friendly choice requiring little maintenance, engineered wood makes for an excellent exterior finish. Made of wood fibres mixed with wax and resin, engineered wood is available in many colors and can also be painted or stained. While it is impact- and weather-resistant, this exterior finish is sometimes vulnerable to breakage and humidity.

Brick cladding

Brick, although quite expensive in terms of material and labour, offers many advantages. Whether you opt for reconstituted, fired clay or concrete bricks, it is a durable material that requires little maintenance. However, it is important to make sure that the home's foundations are sturdy enough to support the load of brick cladding.

Stucco finish

Acrylic stucco provides excellent home insulation. More fragile than other types of exterior finishes, it still has a service life of more than 25 years. Stucco can be painted and applied with special textures or motifs, giving homeowners the chance to let their imagination run wild. However, it requires more maintenance as it must be protected against moisture, and even the slightest crack needs to be repaired.

When choosing your exterior finish, you should also consider your surroundings to choose a look that fits with the style of your neighbourhood. Furthermore, you should take your municipality's urban planning standards. Lastly, it is important to take your budget into account as it will dictate the options that are available to you.
